Lesson Overview

GOAT: Beyond the Game

The Kevin Love Fund and Sony Pictures Animation are excited to announce the launch of a free, research-backed emotional resilience program inspired by the film GOAT. Designed for students in grades 1–8, the curriculum engages learners through fun, creative activities that build valuable skills for well-being. Each lesson kicks off with an original short film, “Roarball Roundup,” featuring beloved GOAT characters who guide students through meaningful moments of growth, reflection, and connection. Together, the Kevin Love Fund and Sony Pictures Animation are empowering the next generation to live healthier lives.

LESSON 1: Finding Your Roar with Will & Jett

Theme: Being Your Authentic Self

Students learn to honor their individuality and personal strengths, and practice separating their self-worth from the judgments or expectations of others.

Activities:

  • Younger students create their own “Walkout Introduction” to celebrate what makes them unique, choosing a theme song that represents who they are.
  • Older students create storyboards as a tool to reflect on their unique strengths and qualities, exploring what makes them proud of themselves.

LESSON 2: Managing Anger with Modo & Archie

Theme: Understanding the Emotions Beneath Anger

Students learn that anger is a normal and healthy emotion, and practice pausing to identify the feelings—such as sadness, fear, or disappointment—that may exist beneath it.

Activity: Students create “Modo’s Mask,” designing the outside of the mask to represent anger, while coloring the inside to reflect the emotions that exist beneath that anger.

LESSON 3: Being Present with Lenny & Olivia

Theme: Mindfulness With Technology

Students learn how distractions such as phones, social media, and screens can interfere with meaningful connection with people they care about. They explore the importance of finding a balance between screen time and real-life relationships.

Activity: Students create a collage representing a moment when they were fully present and engaged, free from distractions. Using their five senses, they recall details from the experience and express them through art.

LESSON 4: Growth Mindset & Resilience with Will

Theme: Overcoming Self-Doubt Through Practice

Students learn that their skills and abilities can grow with effort and practice.

Activity: Students write a letter to their past selves, recalling a time they felt unsure or discouraged, and use the letter to offer support, encouragement, and a perspective that frames the experience as a chance to grow.
